Of ovoid form with a short waisted neck, the vase is decorated in rich gilt enamels set against a dramatic mottled blue-and-brown flambé-style ground, the surface finely crackled throughout in the classic Satsuma manner.

The main panel shows a powerful eagle descending with wings outstretched, its feathers worked in exceptionally fine gilt detailing, poised above dense clusters of peonies and shrubland. To the right of the eagle, three small sparrows are captured mid-flight.

The reverse offers a contrasting still-life composition: a woven basket and curved harvesting scythe resting beside a flowering branch of cherry blossom (sakura), the blossoms executed in raised gilt and soft polychrome enamels.

Signed on the base in gilt: Kinkōzan kore o tsukuru (錦光山造).

Height: 18 cm

Condition: Excellent condition, no damage or restoration observed.
