Of slender pear-shaped form, the rounded body rising to an elongated neck with flared mouth and tapering below to a narrow foot.
Worked in fine wire and coloured enamels with a quail standing among flowering pinks, its head raised and plumage carefully delineated in shades of ochre, brown, grey and cream. The overlapping wing feathers and finely striped markings of the head and breast contrast with the slender green stems and leaves, which extend around the body beneath fringed pink blossoms and unopened buds.
The reverse decorated with smaller flowering plants in shades of pink and russet, their foliage spreading close to the foot. Reserved against a pale blue ground, the asymmetric composition leaves the elongated neck largely unadorned, emphasising the vase’s elegant proportions.
The mouth and foot edged with narrow reddish-brown scalloped borders and fitted with metal rims; the underside enamelled in blue.
Height: 33 cm.
Condition: Good overall, with no bruises or stress lines observed. The base has been drilled for a previous lamp conversion. A very minor area of old restoration to the lower border adjoining the foot rim is barely noticeable when displayed upright; please see the final detail photographs.
