A dramatic kabuki scene from the play Uwanari, depicting Ichikawa Danjūrō VIII in the role of Yokawa no kohijiri confronting Ichikawa Ebizō V as Teruhi no miko (照日の神子). The composition captures the theatrical intensity characteristic of mid-Edo yakusha-e: the wild, horned figure raises his staff in a moment of tension, while the opposing actor recoils in richly patterned blue robes.
The red vertical cartouche bears the title 嫐 (Uwanari). The role name 照日の神子 (Teruhi no miko) appears in a separate label. The print is signed in the lower left 香蝶樓國貞画 (Kōchōrō Kunisada ga).
Published in 1852 as part of the Kabuki Jūhachiban series.
Condition:
Good overall condition for age. Visible age-related toning to the paper, minor surface marks and light handling wear consistent with 19th-century woodblock prints. Colours remain clear. Please refer to the images for full assessment of condition.
