A lively and characterful composition from the series “Nihon Rokujūyoshū no Uchi” (Within the Sixty-odd Provinces of Japan), representing Kazusa Province (上総). The print depicts a seated figure engaged in a domestic activity, accompanied by symbolic imagery including a Daruma figure and humorous narrative elements characteristic of Kuniyoshi’s imaginative and satirical style. The interplay of text, vignette portrait, and main figure reflects the artist’s skill in blending folklore, moral anecdote, and popular storytelling within the provincial format.
Executed with assured line work and a controlled yet expressive palette, the composition demonstrates Kuniyoshi’s mature handling of figure design and narrative balance. The vertical signature cartouche reads Ichiyūsai Kuniyoshi ga.
Size: 33 × 24 cm
