Of rounded rectangular form, the wood body bearing a fine, naturally worn patina and decorated in delicate haritsu technique with a flowering plant motif inlaid in bone, mother-of-pearl, lacquer and metal, likely silver. The hinged lid secured by cord and fitted with an attractive tsuishu (carved red lacquer) ojime carved with chrysanthemum blooms.
The surface shows subtle carving and excellent age character throughout.
