A finely worked kagamibuta netsuke, the dark wood bowl fitted with a solid silver lid decorated with an elegant botanical composition in mixed metals. The design depicts a slender flowering plant with gracefully drooping leaves and a curved bud rising among tufts of grass, while bamboo leaves descend from above, forming a quiet yet balanced naturalistic scene.

The silver lid is embellished with high-relief takazōgan inlays in gold and copper alloys, the applied elements carefully modelled and standing proud of the silver ground. The surrounding details, including bamboo leaves and grasses, are finely engraved in katakiribori, the chisel technique prized by Japanese metalworkers for its fluid, calligraphic quality. The restrained palette of silver, gold, and copper alloys and the refined sparseness of the composition reflect the aesthetic cultivated by kinkō metalworkers, who adapted traditional sword-fitting techniques to the decoration of personal accessories during the late nineteenth century.

The lid is signed Toshichika (俊近) in cursive characters. Metalworkers bearing this name are recorded among craftsmen active in the late Edo and Meiji periods, producing finely worked decorative metal pieces in the tradition of the sword-fitting schools.
