Of elegant ovoid form rising to a slender trumpet neck, finely decorated on a luminous turquoise enamel ground with two birds resting upon a flowering branch of cherry blossom.
The birds are rendered in delicate shaded enamels, their plumage carefully articulated with subtle tonal variation, creating a naturalistic presence against the expansive ground. Surrounding branches display softly coloured blossoms and leaves, while a small butterfly appears to the reverse, adding a quiet moment of movement to the composition.
The restrained design and refined use of open ground reflect the painterly aesthetic that developed in Japanese cloisonné during the later Meiji period, recalling the naturalistic enamel decoration associated with the work of Namikawa Sosuke.
The interior finished in translucent green enamel.
