Of compressed oval form, raised upon three cloud-shaped supports, the body finely worked in silver wire cloisonné and decorated with a naturalistic scene of a cockerel, hen and chicks amidst blooming chrysanthemums and foliage, reserved against a delicate pale turquoise ground. The interior finished in deep cobalt enamel, the rim with a geometric border, the feet with enamelled floral medallions.
The gentle modelling of the birds, painterly shading and subtle tonal transitions reflect the naturalistic aesthetic associated with the Kyoto master Namikawa Sōsuke.
Width: approx. 15 cm
Condition: very good; lacking original cover.
