A SATSUMA SMALL OVOID VASE
By Dozan, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century
Decorated in enamels and gilt with a continuous scene depicting the Shichifukujin (Seven Gods of Good Fortune) making mochi (rice cakes) during the New Year with the two main protagonists Hotei kneading the dough on a mortar and Bishamonten poised beside Hotei wielding a pestle; signed on the base with two characters in gilt Dozan. 12.5cm (4 7/8in) high.
