Of circular form, finely potted and delicately enamelled, the dish is exquisitely painted with a tranquil figural scene set within a landscape. At the centre, a scholar is depicted seated at a rustic wooden table beneath flowering branches, attended by youthful figures in traditional robes. One child presents a flowering branch, while another tends a small brazier, creating a narrative scene of contemplation, learning, and seasonal harmony.

The composition is rendered in finely graded enamels with subtle shading, delicate facial expressions, and meticulous detailing throughout. The palette combines soft ivory, warm earth tones, muted greens, and gentle iron-red accents, heightened by restrained use of gilt outlining. The background is finely stippled, creating depth and atmosphere characteristic of high-quality Meiji-period Satsuma work.

The reverse is glazed in a soft, even ivory tone, showing the natural kiln texture, and the foot is neatly finished. The overall execution demonstrates skilled hand-painting, balanced composition, and refined craftsmanship typical of better Satsuma wares produced for the export market in the late 19th century.

Diameter: approx. 18 cm

Condition: Very good overall, with light surface wear and gentle age-related patina consistent with age; no cracks or restorations observed.
