Of elegant baluster form with a gently flared neck, finely executed in musen (wireless) cloisonné enamel. The luminous pale turquoise ground is decorated with a finely rendered view of Mount Fuji, its snow-capped summit emerging above drifting banks of mist, all executed through delicate tonal gradations of translucent enamel without the use of visible wire.
The atmospheric composition demonstrates the remarkable technical sophistication of the musen technique, creating a subtle painterly effect in which the mountain appears to emerge naturally from the surrounding clouds. The restrained palette and seamless blending of colours exemplify the highest standards of Japanese cloisonné produced during the late Meiji period.
Closely comparable musen examples of this iconic Mount Fuji composition are known by Hayashi Kōhei, Namikawa Sōsuke, and Ando Jūbei, each producing variations in differing colour palettes.
Mounted with its original silver-coloured metal rim and foot.
Height: 12 cm
