A finely worked circular kagamibuta netsuke, set within a dark, well-patinated wooden bowl, the face mounted with a masterfully inlaid mixed-metal plaque in shakudō, copper, and gilt details.

The scene depicts an elderly sage or scholar seated outdoors, unrolling a long scroll across his knees. His expression is deeply contemplative, the facial features rendered with remarkable sensitivity and age. Beside him rests a small vessel, reinforcing the atmosphere of study and quiet reflection. The robe is enriched with delicate scrollwork, while elements of the garment are subtly heightened in soft gilt, creating gentle contrast against the dark ground.

The metalwork demonstrates the refined techniques associated with late Meiji metal artists working in the tradition of sword fittings (kodōgu): fine inlay, subtle texturing, and controlled patination. The plaque is precisely inset into the wooden body, forming a harmonious union between organic material and metal artistry.

Condition: Very good, with natural age patina to the metals and wood consistent with period.
