Of rounded rectangular form, finely executed in gold takamaki-e and togidashi maki-e on a kinji ground. One side depicts a powerful tiger descending a bamboo stalk amidst leafy bamboo, its muscular body rendered in finely modelled relief with delicate texturing and subtle shading. The reverse is decorated with a dramatic dragon emerging from swirling clouds, the scrolling vortex finely polished in togidashi maki-e while the dragon and surrounding bamboo are executed in raised gold takamaki-e.

The interior compartments are finished in a rich nashiji ground, creating a warm golden contrast to the exterior. Fitted with its original braided silk cord and an attractive translucent amber-coloured bead.

Width: 5 cm

Condition

Overall in very good antique condition, displaying only expected age-related wear and a pleasing natural patina consistent with age and use. The lacquer remains well preserved with no obvious damage, repairs, or restoration observed under normal examination.
