A Fine Japanese Cloisonné Enamel Vase with Chrysanthemums and Swallows
Signed Gonda Hirosuke, Meiji period
Of elegant ovoid form with gently waisted neck, the vase is worked in silver-wire (yūsen-jippō) on a luminous turquoise ground. The body is richly decorated with tall sprays of autumn chrysanthemums in shaded enamels of white, plum, ochre and deep red, rising above dense foliage rendered in subtly variegated greens.Above, a pair of swallows sweeps across the sky, their wings defined with exceptionally fine wirework and delicate shading that demonstrates the distinctive hand of Gonda Hirosuke, one of the celebrated enamel masters of Nagoya. The interior mouth is gilded, and the mounts are finished in darkened metal, framing the composition with quiet precision.
The base is stamped with the stylised seal of Gonda Hirosuke, confirming the attribution to this important cloisonné artist, known for his vibrant palettes and meticulous botanical rendering.
Height: 18 cm
