Of elegant ovoid form, rising from a narrow foot to gently rounded shoulders and a short, slightly flared neck, the vase is finely worked in silver wire cloisonné on a deep midnight-blue ground. The decoration depicts sparrows in flight and alighting among flowering plum branches (ume), the blossoms rendered in delicately shaded white enamels with subtle tonal modulation, accompanied by bamboo issuing from the lower register — a classic seasonal combination symbolising resilience, renewal, and harmony.

The composition is asymmetrically arranged, allowing areas of the rich dark ground to remain visible, enhancing the sense of space and movement characteristic of refined Meiji-period cloisonné. The neck and foot are encircled by finely executed decorative borders, including stylised flowerhead motifs on a scrolling ground, executed with precision and restraint.

The interior retains its original gilded finish, and the base shows a dark green enamel ground, consistent with workshop practices associated with Hayashi Kōdenji and his circle.

Height: 18 cm

Condition: Very good overall condition. Minor surface wear and light age-related handling marks only. No cracks, chips, or restorations observed. The enamels retain strong gloss and depth of colour.
