Of elegant ovoid form with a domed cover surmounted by a chrysanthemum-form finial, finely worked in gilt metal wire on a warm ivory ground. The body is richly decorated with a phoenix in flight amidst scrolling floral tendrils, interspersed with stylised mon roundels and further ornamental motifs.
The lower body is set against a deep iron-red ground with continuous karakusa scrollwork, creating a dense and highly decorative composition. The shoulder and neck are encircled by bands of polychrome ornament, while the interior and base are finished in gilt metal.
