The ovoid body rising from a spreading circular foot to a gently domed cover surmounted by a small knop finial. The sides are decorated in relief with a naturalistic composition of chrysanthemums, autumn leaves and a small bird in flight, the design executed in applied mixed-metal work including copper and gilt accents, creating a rich contrast against the warm brown bronze ground.
The flowers and foliage are finely modelled with careful attention to texture, the chrysanthemum blooms highlighted with gilt tones while the leaves display varying shades of reddish copper. The bird is shown descending among the foliage, adding a lively element to the composition.
The domed cover is decorated with engraved chrysanthemum sprays, echoing the main decorative theme of the body and creating a harmonious overall design.
The bronze displays a soft, warm patina consistent with pieces produced during the Taishō period, when refined decorative metalwork continued the traditions of late Meiji craftsmanship while adopting a slightly softer, more naturalistic aesthetic.
Height: 20 cm
Condition: Good overall condition with minor surface wear consistent with age.
