A finely crafted Japanese kagamibuta netsuke, the rounded wood body fitted with a gilt metal plaque delicately carved in relief with chrysanthemums surrounding a stylised goshoguruma (court carriage wheel) motif.
The composition is elegantly arranged with the segmented rim and spokes of the carriage wheel partially concealed among blooming kiku flowers, a poetic design frequently seen in classical Japanese decorative arts and associated with Heian court culture and refined seasonal symbolism.
The metal plaque is crisply modelled with pierced elements and subtle surface texturing, creating a rich contrast against the warm patina of the polished wood body. Such kagamibuta netsuke often reflect collaboration between wood carvers and skilled metalworkers whose techniques relate closely to the traditions of sword fitting craftsmanship.
The reverse retains the original himotoshi with an old cord remnant, showing natural wear consistent with age and use.
Diameter: 4.5 cm
Condition:
Excellent overall condition with minor age wear consistent with age.
